Mobile ECMO Units: Bringing Advanced Cardiac Care to the Field

Special Services, Critical Care Vehicle

Life Line Emergency Vehicles is one of the few manufacturers in the United States with the expertise to design and build custom ECMO-equipped ambulances. These highly specialized mobile care units are built to support extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), one of the most advanced life-support interventions used in cardiac arrest treatment.

By enabling ECMO to begin as quickly as possible while a patient is being transported to the emergency department or cath lab, these vehicles help reduce the time between cardiac arrest and critical intervention a factor that can significantly improve survival outcomes.

ECMO in the Field
Long before advanced pre-hospital ECMO programs became an industry focus, Life Line Emergency Vehicles helped bring ECMO out of the hospital and directly to the patient, reshaping what cardiac arrest care could look like.

Innovation Through Partnership
The Center for Resuscitation Medicine at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities partnered with 94 Services of Monticello, MN and chose Life Line to build a first-of-its-kind mobile ECMO unit. At the time, field-based ECMO was almost unheard of.

Redefining What’s Possible
Instead of waiting hours to reach a hospital capable of performing ECMO, this unit delivered life-saving intervention right at the scene. It proved that advanced resuscitation could happen anywhere.

A Moment That Moved the Industry Forward
More than a project, this was a milestone in innovation, vision, and dedication that helped set a new bar for pre-hospital care.
